Chin spoilers and cameras installed

I still need to do a full write up but here is a quick look at how these turned out.

Below you can see how the new 2011+ SRT spoiler compares to the originals on a friends 2010 Challenger

What it looks like from inside the car when the front facing camera turns on

I’ll have a more detailed write up on the front facing camera, for more info on how to install an SRT chin spoiler on our R/Ts, check out Speed’s garage, where he has a very detailed video on how to do this install. I’ll have a mini write up where Rob and I will add a few helpful hints that may make it go a bit easier.

Next Mod(S)

The garage and drive way will be filled with Challengers this weekend while we tackle a pair of Challengers (My 2010 Plum Crazy Purl R/T and a friends 2009 Dark Titanium Metallic R/T)

We’ll be replacing our current chin spoilers with 2011 SRT one piece spoilers with brake air vent plenums.  At the same time we’ll also be installing a pair of front facing camera’s to our pre installed Lockpicks.

Last of the double mods will be replacing our current factory lug nuts.  There’s been some chatter on the forums and even a good friend at the local car club, who has had swollen lug nuts that had to be cut off.  So for some cheap premaintenance we’ll be replacing our OEM lug nuts and wheel locks with a set of after market Gorilla Lug nuts

The 2009 will also get a new set of Bullet Tech R/T center caps.

More pictures, part numbers and step by step instruction(s) next week.

The best way to get under your car

As soon as I brought my Challenger home I’ve been wanting an easier way to get under the car for things like maintenance, oil changes and inspections. I’ve gone back and forth but have always wanted a good set of Race Ramps. The only drawback is, these are on the pricey side.  Oh but they are well worth it!

I’ve decided to go with the RR-XT-2 67 Inch 2 piece race ramps.  These are a two piece design, meaning that once the car is in place and the wheels are chocked you can remove the ramp part so you have better access under the car.

Check out the new article I just posted under Garage, entitled Race Ramps for more information

New Hurst Pistol grip shifter installed

Picked up a used Hurst Pistol grip shifter from the Challengertalk.com forums for a great price last week and it came in today.  I’ll be mating this with an already upgraded shifter assembly from HURST.

It should be noted that this was the version from pistolgrip727.com, that fits stock 6-Speed shifter assemblies, which I’m installing on the full Hurst sort throw assembly.  However with a few very minor modifications I was able to install and buttoned this mod up in about 20 minutes, which included a test drive.

1970 Challenger is one of the top 10 most beautiful cars of all time

CNBC/Yahoo lists the 1970 Dodge Challenger (in Plum Crazy no less) as one of the top ten most beautiful cars of all time

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T

A white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T famously starred in the 1971 film “Vanishing Point” (and because of that, a plot device in Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof”). Brauer points out other noteworthy aspects of this model: It was also the first for “E-Body,” it offered with 426 Hemi engine and it was available in “high-impact” colors like “Plum Crazy Purple.”

Out with the new in with the old: Grill emblem replacement and relocation

Latest mini mod was replacing my current Challenger front grill emblem with an old school script like we have on the fenders of the Classic model.

I’ve removed the front grill’s modern Challenger logo (Bold block text vs old school script) replaced it with the Challenger Classic side script emblem and relocated it to the drivers side next to the R/T.

The OEM emblem comes off by simply squeezing the top and bottom of the emblem together, and releasing the clips that hold it to the front honeycomb grill.   The Challenger emblem I used is the same for the fenders.  It does not have clips and you adhere it via 3M tape.  Simply clean off the area with alcohol, peal the backing off the new (old) emblem and align with the bottom edge of the R in the R/T emblem.

Thanks to Steve in our local club for reminding me that I had to do this mod.

Custom Name tags

Recently I’ve had a few people ask me where I had my custom “Challenger R/T” and “HEMI 5.7” embroidered name tapes made.  Some have seen the cars with the old airplane “remove before flight” ribbons but those get a little stale after seeing them on different cars.   My custom tapes change that up a bit while offering some useful information about car.

The best place I found who offered the best price, fast service and great customer support was from a company called Military Name Tape Factory.  They run about $8.00 to $9.00 depending on the fastener.  You can get D-ring, Velcro or lanyard fasteners in a number of tape and thread styles.  You can also get logo’s and other icons embroidered onto the tapes as well.

I had white thread embroidered on purple tape for my car.  I do recommend that you don’t have them embroidered threw both sides of the tape.  The back side should be blank (or you would have the reversed text on the back).  My first set, for the car, was done like this and looked terrible. None of my personalized luggage tapes where done like this so it never mentioned it to them. After contacting them, they realized their mistake and replaced them ASAP.

Another idea would be, instead of the old windshield car club stickers.  You could use these with the car club’s name and logo embroidered onto the tape.
